Panel Terminations

Project consist of new truck receptacles and the new NEMA 3R distribution panel. At this installation, ground fault (GFI) protection is provided by breakers in the distribution panel. Each cord location is equipped with a heavy duty weatherproof ON/OFF switch. This concept was designed by and is unique to ProElectric.

Prior to plugging the cord into the truck or removing the cord from the truck, the switch should be turned OFF. This prevents arcing as the plug is inserted into the truck and provides an additional level of electrical safety for the operator. The GFI breaker will trip if a current path is detected to ground. However, it will not trip if the operator's hand becomes a conductor between the line and neutral conductors. The switch disconnects both the line and neutral conductors from the truck plug.

 
Conduit is rigid steel and is fastened to the back side of the Jersey walls for better protection. Rigid steel was selected due to variations in temperature between winter and summer which would cause other conduit to expand, contract and crack. Rigid steel will better withstand conditions observed at other PennDot sites such as bumps from plows and abrasion from tire chains.
 
Stainless steel fasteners were used throughout.
 
Voltage drop calculations were performed during the design phase and wire sizes selected accordingly.
 
The installation also provides four new pole mounted lights. The lights are operated by a switch mounted on the pole near the entry gate. If the switch is left on, a photocell wired in series with the switch will turn the lights off at dawn and back on again at dusk.
