Local 229 purchases new building

Local 229 officers are happy to announce that on Monday December 21st Local 229 "settled" on our new Union Hall/JATC Training facility.

The new facility located at 555 Wilow Springs Lane in East Manchester Township, only about 2 miles off the Emigsville exit if Interstate 83. This building will serve as our new union hall and JATC Training Facility. The builidng is over 18,000 sq.ft. and is situated on 6.13 acres.

The building is in excellent condition with practically no work required on the exterior with the interior consisting of two small existing offices and bathrooms with the balance of the facility being open space ready for our construction of offices, meeting room, conference room, classrooms, labs etc.

The primary motivation for the purchase of this facitlity was the need for more space for our apprenticeship training program. The officers and JATC committe are working in earnerst to get the necessary renovations underway as quickly as possible, we hope to have the facility ready by late spring.

The JATC will occupy over 8,000 sq.ft of the building, to put that in perspective, the size of our current hall, in total, is 6,450 sq.ft. This will allow the JATC committee to construct a state of the art training facility for our apprentices, JW,s and Technicians to train in. There will be individual classrooms for each year of the JATC program, training labs including solar photovaltaic, motor control, BICSI, several craft certification labs and a large "workshop area" for hands on training with larger equipment.

We now have the faciltiy to give EVERY apprentice the opportunity to learn,hands on, with every piece of electrical equipment necessary for them to "top out" as the best trained electrical worker in the industry!!

We have alot of work ahead of us and we will need members participation to accomlish it!!
