The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) represents approximately 700,000 members who work in a wide variety of fields, including utilities, construction, telecommunications, broadcasting, manufacturing, railroads and government.

IBEW Local 229 represents the best trained, most productive and most safety conscious electricians and technicians in York & Adams counties Pennsylvania. Local 229 members work for various electrical contractors on numerous sites in York and Adams counties. We are your neighbors, friends, teammates, church members… we are the very fabric of south central Pennsylvania. We are proud of our craftsmanship, our training, our expertise, our professionalism and our union. We are proud to be part of our communities and provide the highest standard of electrical work to our partner contractors customers.

Many of our partner Electrical Contractors are members of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) which represents a majority of the unionized electrical contractors in North America. With over 5,000 contractors in membership NECA contractors on your job site mean experience, excellence, reliability, and the best safety records in the industry.

The long-standing alliance between IBEW and NECA ensures an adequate supply of well trained, highly skilled, and productive electricians to meet the needs of the electrical construction industry.

The IBEW and NECA joined together in the 1940’s to create the National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee, the NJATC. Since its creation, the NJATC has developed into what is perhaps the largest apprenticeship and training program of its kind. The NJATC apprenticeship is the premier electrical apprenticeship program in North America!

Through the NJATC, we attract the most qualified electrical apprentices in the country.

Under this rigorous, college accredited program, apprentices must complete five years of classroom training for a total of 1,000 hours and 10,000 hours on-the-job training before they become journeymen. All training is held in our 10,000 square foot training center which encompasses classrooms, labs, and shop areas. Local 229 also has a state of the art certified BICSI lab on site for training our Voice-Data-Video workers.

Safety is of the highest priority for our workers…our electricians are trained in OSHA 30, NFP 70E, first aid, CPR, confined space and many other safety related practices. Local 229 electricians will get your project done on time and on budget with the highest level of expertise in the industry at a competitive price!! This standardized training program ensures that you can be confident that every Local 229 journeyman employed by our partner contractors will have the same high level of skill, expertise and professionalism. Our referral process gives us the ability to have highly skilled electricians on your project within hours!
